CMSMadeSimple is a little goodie we discovered about a year and a half ago. It is a very simple Content Management System which allows a business owner to get a site fast, and then to perform routine updates themselves.
It works a lot like a site builder, but simpler. Each time you create a page, you can tell the system where you want the page to link to, and the menu links are automatically created. This makes it very simple for a site owner to add pages easily. Making changes to an existing page is very simple also – just pick it from the list of pages, click on the title, and the edit screen appears. Use of this neat little system has helped us be able to offer high value to business owners with tight budgetary constraints. CMSMadeSimple has two HUGE advantages over a site builder: It allows you to completely customize the template. That means you are not stuck using someone else's “canned” design. You are able to get a design that really fits your business. It is movable! (Websites created in site builders are tied to the site builder, and cannot be moved.) You are not locked into someone else's hosting plan or anyone's fees. You can hire whomever you wish to do the technical stuff (or learn to do it yourself), and if you need to change hosting, you can! Your site is fully portable! This gives you COMPLETE ownership over the site.
CMSMadeSimple has some goodies you can add to it, but many business owners really only want, or need, basic function. We set them up in this system, and their site looks and acts just like a regular HTML site, except that they can do those updates themselves. It does require some technical updates and backups on a regular basis. Any software based website does. But for most small business owners, a $25 per month known fee is easier to handle than unpredictable fees.
