A Content Management System (CMS) is a system that allows you to make easy changes from the back end, similar to a site builder, but with more flexibility and function than a site builder.
This means you can hire a pro to do the technical stuff, while you can do the regular updates. Usually it isn't much harder than sending email with attachments. A content management system may also allow multiple people to handle different parts of the site updates. A basic CMS will allow you to make easy updates. A more featured one will allow many more functions, including membership management, forum integration, controlled access to specific parts of the site, gallery or cart integration, and much more. In fact, features that used to be very expensive are now amazingly affordable. Clients are perpetually surprised at how much value they can get from a CMS, and how little it increases costs to add those features. What used to cost thousands, now costs hundreds (or less!). Some CMS systems are reliable and well supported. Others are flaky and downright risky to use. We've chosen two that we work with regularly, and which offer the functions that our clients need. Both are proven systems which are well supported. CMS systems require regular maintenance. They are software based, and there are always people out there with motives to try to abuse software based websites. Keeping the software up-to-date reduces the biggest risks. We offer a low cost maintenance package with every CMS package we sell, which includes regular updates, regular backups, and exceptional phone or email support and assistance. It is important to select the right CMS for your needs. Call or email us if you'd like to discuss what would be best for you, we'll help you know what is needed without trying to pressure sell you on anything!
